About SEO and Keywords

Here's a tip from one of my students, Ashley Campbell, who is a writer/editor and who specialises in written communications such as press releases, brochures, adverts, articles, and web site content:

Title Tag
The Title tag should be a grammatical sentence, not simply a name and/or a list of key words. The best practice, going by all
the blogs, info sites I've read is to have a title tag that begins with a grammatical sentence containing 2-3 of the most important keywords for that page, and ends with the company name. This is one of the most important factors in getting sites to the top of a search on those key words.

Keywords
The important thing here is to limit the number of keywords per page to 2-4, not have a long list. If a client has a site that could be searched for using many keywords, best practice is to divide them between the pages, allocating each keyword to the page it is most relevant to. It's also really important to get the keywords mentioned 2-3 times within the body copy, at least once in the heads and, if at all possible, in the links of the page as well. All your alt tags should contain at least one keyword for that page.

Links are actually extremely important in SEO, and wherever possible they should be keyword rich. So, for example, if one of your keywords was Mac training, in an email link for people to find out about Mac training, your call to action might be "Email us to find out about Mac training", but the link would actually be on the "Mac training" not on the "email us".

This is a really good site for learning about SEO:http://www.bigoakinc.com/blog/
